We have to do better than this folks. Many of our most trusted, elected officials, who we call honorable and selfless, are proving they can't be trusted.
When we hear news reports of Bill Clinton's Lewinsky, Anthony Weiner's sexting, Sen. Al Franken's forceful kissing and Matt Lauer's push-button locking door, we Republicans say, "oh well, they have no morals anyway, so what should we expect?"
Then, we find our own Texas Congressmen Joe Barton and Blake Farenthold, doing the same thing, getting busted and using "slush-fund" money (taxpayer money) to pay off women? Hush money? It was even reported Congressman Barton threatened one woman with calling Capitol Police if she told.
Barton said he would not seek re-election but will stay in office until his term is expired since I'm sure he feels the people need his leadership in our troubling times.
Here's the thing. If people live their private lives, have issues, maybe get divorced, live like a bachelor for several years, then decide to get married, and settle down, what they did in their private lives is not my concern. Unless of course, they were injuring others.
But once this person decides to run for office, and is elected to represent the people, they must hold themselves to the highest standard, and not allow themselves to be compromised.
Imagine the position Blake Farenthold and Joe Barton are in, regarding blackmail. Imagine the things they would do to keep things undercover. Heck, even the mafia or Russians could own them.
The nerve of these guys, getting their own sexual pleasures off our dime, acting as if they deserve to stay in office as if we should simply look the other way.
From the Democrats to the Republicans, it is obvious, we have some major cleaning up to do. Drain the Swamp has never sounded more appropriate. These power hungry, over sexualized representatives must go. We don't want them to finish out their terms peacefully, with full benefits. We want them to resign, right now.
Back out, go home, be done.
