Yesterday, I was asked, " What did you think of Trump's speech at the U.N.?" I replied, "Not sure, I haven't had time to watch it yet." They responded by insinuating he was taking us to war with the world.
Not having the time to watch the speech during the work day, last night I found it on YouTube and watched the entire 41-minute address to the leaders of the world.
If you only watched what CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, and ABC reported, one might also come to the conclusion that President Trump was war-like, starting fights and picking on other nations.
But, if you took the time to watch and listen to what was being said, you would have to come to a different conclusion.
For starters, President Trump was very thankful for the coalitions formed by many nations who stand with us in the fight against terrorism. He thanked the nations for taking in displaced refugees in warring countries who have no regard for the lives of their own people.
On multiple occasions, Trump mentioned the basis for the U.N.'s foundation, which included the three pillars of world peace; sovereignty, security, and prosperity for all nations.
President Trump laid out the history of the human rights violations and atrocities carried out by many nations who hypocritically served on the U.N.'s Human Rights Council.
He called out Iran's regime for assisting terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and for promoting terrorism around the world. He mentioned the horrible conditions of the refugees and drew attention to those nations who trade with Iran, and essentially support the rogue nation.
President Trump also made very clear, the violations of North Korea, which include the launching of ICBM's and their pursuit of nuclear weapons. He spoke with heavy words and was clear with his intentions and the U.S.'s position if forced to act on N. Korea. He did say we would "totally destroy" N. Korea and mentioned that Kim Jon Il was on a "suicide mission" with his desire to possess nuclear weapons.
Venezuela's dictator, Nicolas Maduro, was also called out in a very direct way, accused of starving his people and subjecting them to a tyrannical socialist government. Trump specifically pointed out the many failures of socialism and communism, stating any government who oppresses its people, imprisons opposition activists and has no respect for its people, is a threat to those of us who are trying to live in peace.
After lining out the many issues we face, Trump went back to the basics. He reiterated the need for united efforts. He asked world leaders to act now, in order to have prosperity in the future. He spoke of dealing with the problems today so our children would not have to face them tomorrow.
How one can conclude his speech was fear mongering and war-like, is beside me. I concluded he clearly stated our challenges, identified the offenders, and united the nations to rise and act against those who promote terrorism and want to usher in global chaos.
I applaud him for not only having the courage to stand and say what must be said but also for his efforts to unite the peaceful nations against the oppressive regimes of the world in order to create a better place for all humanity.
