The Answer was Never DACA

I know there are lots of people upset about the recent announcement of President Trump.

It should come as no surprise, once President Obama was out of office, the next Republican President would undo the damage of the irresponsible Executive Orders and directives of Obama.

DACA was voting leverage, used to get Obama elected by winning the Hispanic vote.  The problem is, once elected, Obama failed to use his political capital to create real legislation to solve the problem.  Instead, he placed a temporary patch on the problem, leaving it to the next President to deal with.

It has always been my opinion that DACA was not the answer.  What about everyone else living here illegally?  Obama signed DACA into existence, yet left everyone else hanging.  Sure, their kids might be spared, but the parents continued in limbo.

It's time to implement a mandatory initiative to enroll and process all illegal immigrants living here today.  We must be tough and set high standards, ensuring we filter out the good from the bad.

President Trump might offer the opportunity for those in DACA to register into the new program and transition away from DACA.

If applicants qualify after a stringent screening, I feel President Trump should allow these people the ability to earn legal status and receive a temporary visa.

No citizenship.  No voting.

This will serve to resolve the entire problem, rather than addressing only a fraction of the many who continue to this day in illegal status.

Of course, we must secure our borders, implement new ID cards, and increase the size of our border patrol.  This goes without saying.

My point is, we don't have to deport everyone, just the bad ones.  Republicans can lead on this issue.
